ian’s whole motivation behind issuing an ultimatum/leaving mickey again is because he so desperately needs to be wanted!!! last season mickey couldn’t even swallow his pride enough to tell ian to stay which to ian read like “oh he’s choosing svetlana and their pseudo-marriage over me” and now he’s back and a) i love me some gallaghers but they’re not particularly observant re: ian because they have so much of their own shit going on so he’s getting little to no concern/attention from them and b) mickey is still ~with~ svetlana and won’t acknowledge his and ian’s relationship publicly

the whole “what about me” theme of 4.11 (ian says it twice!!!) pretty much sums it up, he feels unwanted and unloved and like he’s playing second fiddle to everyone else — like the whole “you’re scared of your father, your scared of your wife” boils down to “you care about what they think more than you care about me”!!! and the ~i’m tired of being your mistress~ jab like yo, he wants to be with mickey desperately but he needs to know that mickey feels the same, he’s sick of being The Other Woman, this is why he left in the first place

i think my favourite thing about this season is that we’re finally seeing ian and mickey’s relationship from mickey’s POV — like we’re finally getting to see mickey’s feelings for ian in the context of mickey’s life, whereas in previous seasons we’ve only really seen mickey in scenes about ian. now we’re getting scenes that are just mickey, and mickey-driven ian/mickey scenes, so we’ve had mickey miserably wanking and miserably fucking other people and getting a miserable lap dance and just being in miserable love, something we’re used to only seeing from ian. it’s not that the LOVE is on mickey’s side now, it’s just that we’re seeing it all from his perspective. and by coming out how he did mickey basically said “i care about you more than i care about anyone else and what they think” which is what ian’s been waiting to hear forever

they’re both absolutely head over heels and it feels like they’re FINALLY on an even playing field and frankly i’m too fucking delicate
